Greetings OADN Members!

I am writing to you from the airport after the OADN 2018 convention in Philadelphia. My head is still spinning from all the excitement from convention. The excitement was infectious.  The speakers brought to the attendees the results of research resulting in evidence-based practice and ideas related to how we can continue to educate our future nurses.  The attendees walked away rejuvenated and with tools and resources to bring to the classroom.  I am a product of an associate degree-nursing program.   It is exciting to return as a member of the organization, attend the convention that assist in the growth the future nurses.

As a child, I dreamed about being a nurse or a teacher; I played nurse and teacher every chance I had.  If someone would have told me then that one day I could do both, I am not sure I would have believed them.  The reality is we are both, nurses and educators.   I have been a nurse for over 30 years with education being my focus for the past 11 years.  In reflecting the last several years, it has been a very challenging but rewarding career.  When I reflect on how we influence so many individuals, I marvel as a nurse.

I have actively been involved with OADN for five years.  During this time, I served as in Director Position for two terms supporting the vision and mission of OADN.  OADN plays an active role representing you, the members, and serves as an active voice and continues to lead the charge in associate degree nursing education.     Over the next couple of years, my goal as President is to continue to support the focus areas of advancing the membership, advocating for nursing education and promoting collaboration.   As a member, you are valuable to the future of our healthcare and nursing education.  You, the educator, mold and transform the minds of the students that desire to become nurses.  Thank you for sharing your many years of experiences with the students.  OADN is your organization and it is committed to being your voice.

I am humbled and honored to represent you and the organization in a leadership capacity.   I look forward to the next two years.
