President-Elect Christy Dryer Appointed to Hospital Board

Christy 124c160Christy Dryer, DNP, RN, CNE OADN’s President-Elect has been appointed to the Board of Directors for Union Hospital, located in Cecil County, Maryland for a nine year term.  Union Hospital is a full-service community hospital located in Elkton, Maryland, whose mission is to enhance the health and well-being of residents of Cecil County and neighboring communities.   Nationally recognized for clinical excellence in the treatment and prevention of disease, its 122-bed not-for-profit hospital is dedicated to providing superior, personalized, quality health care to our neighbors, families and friends.

Currently, Dr. Dryer is the Dean of Nursing and Professions at Cecil College. She has been actively involved in promoting nursing and nursing education across the region.  Her professional activities include: past president of the Maryland Association for Associate Degree Nursing Directors (MAADND); current secretary for the Maryland Association for Associate Degree Nursing; Member of the Maryland Action Coalition for the IOM/Future of Nursing, and past committee co-chair, an Editorial Board member for Teaching and Learning in Nursing; and a participant in the Nurse in Washington Internship program.

In addition to OADN, she is a member of several professional organizations including the American Nurses Association; Delaware Nurses Association; Maryland Nurses Association; Maryland Council of Deans and Directors of Associate Degree and Baccalaureate Nursing Programs; National League of Nursing (NLN Ambassador); and Sigma Theta Tau, Honor Society of Nursing, Beta Xi (University of Delaware) and Pi (University of Maryland) Chapters. Dr. Dryer has also testified on behalf of MAADND and Maryland Nurses Association at the Maryland state legislature and served as a consultant to the developing University of Maryland University College, RN to BSN program.

She has presented regionally on nursing and nursing education topics. Dr. Dryer completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; her Master’s degree at University of Delaware; and her Doctor of Nursing Practice at University of Maryland.

Dr. Dryer is honored to become a member of the Union Hospital Board and is looking forward to contributing to the mission of Union Hospital, while bringing a nursing perspective to the Board. Dr. Dryer’s nursing leadership skills will be a great attribute and her extensive background truly will be a wonderful addition.
