The following message is from Chris Hrouda, Executive Vice President, Biomedical Services:
The IT issues most of us experienced this week have exacerbated our already low platelet collections and supply. We now have an emergency need for platelets donations to help critically ill hospital patients. If you are eligible, please donate platelets as soon as possible. If you can’t donate platelets, whole blood donations are also urgently needed at this time. And if you are not eligible for platelets or blood, please recruit someone to donate in your place.
Visit redcrossblood.org to find your nearest donation center and make an appointment now to donate.
Never donated platelets before? Platelets are tiny cells in your blood that form clots and stop bleeding. For millions of Americans, they are essential to surviving and fighting cancer, chronic diseases, and traumatic injuries. Every 30 seconds someone in the U.S. needs platelets. And because platelets must be used within five days, new donors are needed every day. Learn more about platelet donation.
Thank you for your commitment to our mission and the hospitals and patients we serve.
