PIONEER ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING LEADER PASSES AWAY

Verle Waters ClarkWith sadness the OADN Board of Directors and CEO Donna Meyer, share the news of the passing of Verle Waters, a true champion and supporter for associate degree nursing education.  She was a transformational leader who began working with Mildred Montag in 1952.  She brought about a true change in nursing education and incorporated the idea of inclusivity and revolutionizing nursing education many years ago.  OADN Board member, Dr. Liana Orsolini was mentored by Verle and recently stated, “In 2008 when I was an inexperienced nursing instructor at Evergreen Community College Verle’s kindness and mentoring helped launch many milestone events which eventually led to my representing associate degree nursing on the Institute of Medicine’s Future of Nursing committee.  It is an honor and privilege to know an incredible and gracious nursing leader in associate degree nursing who created a national movement which resulted in millions of well-prepared registered nurses.”  Verle Waters will  to be inducted as an honorary member of the Academy for Associate Degree Nursing on November 5, 2016 in Dallas, Texas.  We hope many will be present to celebrate her life’s work.
