Below is a summary of the Nursing Community (NC) coalition’s activity for the month of April 2017.

Reiteration of FY 2017 Requests

The Nursing Community sent a letter to members of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education (LHHS-Ed) reiterating the coalition’s FY2017 funding requests of $244 million for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and $157 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research.
 

FY 2018 Requests

The Nursing Community sent a letter on April 21, 2017 to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on LHHS-Ed signed by 58 organizations. It outlined the funding requests levels of $244 million for Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and $160 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research for FY 2018.
 

Dear Colleague Letter

Ninety-one Members of Congress signed on to a Dear Colleague letter that was circulated by Representatives Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) and Rodney Davis (R-IL) requesting $244 million for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs in FY 2018. It was sent to the Chair and Ranking Member of the House LHHS-Ed Appropriations Subcommittee on April 6, 2017.
 

Meetings

The NC held their monthly meeting on April 4, 2017 and was hosted by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. There were 36 NC organizations present for the discussion.
