Nursing Community Monthly Roundup - June 2017

monthly roundup

Below is a summary of the Nursing Community (NC) coalition’s activity for the month of June 2017.

Fifty-nine organizations signed on to testimony submitted to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies that outlines the coalition’s funding requests for Fiscal Year 2018. The Nursing Community requests $244 million for the Nursing Workforce Development Programs (Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act) and $160 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research, one of the 27 Institutes and Centers within NIH.

Forty-four organizations signed on a to a letter sent to thank Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ben Cardin (D-MD) and to Representatives Chris Collins (R-NY), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Ron Kind (D-WI), Pat Tiberi (R-OH), Gregg Harper (R-MS), Mike Kelly (R-PA), and Patrick Meehan (R-PA), the cosponsors of the Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act (S. 445, H.R. 1825). Currently, S. 445 has 35 cosponsors and H.R. 1825 has 103 cosponsors.

Fifty-three organizations signed on to a statement urging Senators to commit to America’s health as the Administration and Congress address health reform. The coalition believes our healthcare delivery system should be one that promotes wellness, advances innovation through scientific discovery, and provides timely access to care in order to support the patients, families, communities, and populations our members serve.

The Steering Committee sent a communication to Secretary Price that reinforces the need for provider neutral language in communications with the public and in all policies.

The NC held their monthly meeting on June 6, 2017 and was hosted by the American Organization of Nurse Executives. There were 38 NC organizations present for the discussion.
