Below is a summary of the Nursing Community Coalition’s (NCC) activity for the month of January.


Letter on Fiscal Year 2018

The Nursing Community Coalition sent a letter to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees urging them to fund each of the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) in Fiscal Year 2018 with at least the levels proposed by the Senate's Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee bill totaling $234.472 million for Title VIII programs and $155.210 million for NINR in FY 2018.


Letter on H.R. 959/S.1109

Fifty-one organizations signed on to a letter sent by the Nursing Community Coalition to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee (and its Subcommittee on Health) as well as the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee urging them to make the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2017 (HR 959 and S 1109, respectively) a priority during the second session of the 115th Congress. 

Letter on S.2317

Forty Nursing Community Coalition organizations signed on to a letter thanking Senators Ed Markey (D-MA), Rand Paul (R-KY), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Susan Collins (R-ME) for introducing the Addiction Treatment Access Improvement Act of 2018 (S. 2317), a companion bill to H.R. 3692. This legislation seeks to broaden the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 823 (g)(2)(G)) to allow all APRNs to use their clinical training and expertise to provide care to those suffering from opioid addictions.


Letter to Alex Azar

The Steering Committee sent a congratulatory letter to the newly appointed U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar. The Steering Committee also requested a meeting to discuss priorities.


The NC held their monthly meeting on January 9, 2017 and 29 NCC organizations were present for the discussion.
