Nursing Community Monthly Roundup - March 2018
March 2018
Below is a summary of the Nursing Community Coalition’s (NCC) activity for the month of March.
The Steering Committee released a statement commending the increased investments to nursing education and research in the Consolidated Appropriations Act. The omnibus package provided $249 million for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs (a 9% increase from last year) and $158 for the National Institute of Nursing Research (a 5% increase from last year).
Letter Supporting the Gun Violence Research Act
Forty-six NCC members signed on to a letter thanking Representative Stephany Murphy (D-FL) for introducing the Gun Violence Research Act (H.R. 1478). This legislation would prevent limitations from being imposed upon the Department of Health and Human Services, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to promote evidence-based research that examines the causes of gun violence and identifies methods to reduce gun-related fatalities and injuries.
Meetings
The NCC held their monthly meeting on March 6, 2018 and 27 NCC organizations were present for the discussion.
