Below is a summary of the Nursing Community Coalition’s (NCC) activity for the month of May.
All fifty-nine members of the Nursing Community Coalition supported the letter sent to the entire Congress in honor of National Nurses Week. The statement thanked them for their continued collaboration with the coalition and shared this year’s theme for Nurses Week: Nurses Inspire, Innovate, Influence. Held annually from May 6-12, this year’s Nurse Week coincided with the coalition’s launch of its 10th Anniversary celebrations.
Fifty-one members of the Nursing Community Coalition signed on to a letter sent to the House Energy and Commerce as well as the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committees expressing the coalition’s commitment to the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R. 959/S.1109). The letter reiterated that this legislation is the coalition’s top legislative priority for the 115th Congress.
Meeting with Captain Sophia Russell
On May 23rd, members of the Steering Committee met with the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Director of the Division of Nursing and Public Health, Captain Sophia Russell. Among the items discussed were the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses, the nurse faculty shortage, and the focus of Title VIII grants on addressing the opioid epidemic. The conversation provided good insights for future partnerships and the Steering Committee will work to set up quarterly meetings with Captain Russell’s office.
The NCC held their monthly meeting on May 1, 2018 and 28 NCC organizations were present for the discussion.
