Christy Dryer currently serves as the Vice-President of Academic Programs for Cecil College, in Maryland. Prior to this, she was the Dean of Nursing and Health Professions at Cecil. Dr. Dryer has served on the Board of Directors for the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) 2013 to 2018 and served as the president 2016-2018. Dr. Dryer started her nursing practice as a medical/surgical nurse at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York. During her time in New York, she had the opportunity to become an adjunct nursing faculty member at Dutchess Community College and discovered her passion for nursing education. Upon relocating to Maryland, Dr. Dryer started her career at Cecil College first becoming adjunct nursing faculty, then an assistant professor, to Director of Nursing, Dean and Vice-President. During this time she has also practiced as medical/surgical nurse and staff educator at Union Hospital in Elkton, Maryland; an allied health educator for Cecil College; and contract educator through Cecil College for various health care facilities in the Maryland region.
Dr. Dryer has been actively involved in promoting nursing and nursing education across the region. Her professional nursing activities include: past president of the Maryland Association for Associate Degree Nursing Directors; Member of the Maryland Action Coalition for the IOM/Future of Nursing, and past committee co-chair; past member of the Editorial Board for Teaching and Learning in Nursing; and a participant in the Nurse in Washington Internship program. In addition to OADN, she is a member is several professional organizations including the American Nurses Association; Delaware Nurses Association; Maryland Nurses Association; National League of Nursing (NLN Ambassador); and Sigma Theta Tau, Honor Society of Nursing, Beta Xi (University of Delaware) and Pi (University of Maryland) Chapters. Dr. Dryer has also testified on behalf of MAADND and MNA at the Maryland state legislature and served as a consultant to the developing University of Maryland University College, RN to BSN program. Dr. Dryer has co-authored several of the OADN position statements.
Dr. Dryer has served on several advisory councils/boards in the Maryland region and currently serves on the University of Maryland Doctor of Nursing Practice Advisory Board, the Advisory Board to Cecil County Public Schools Certified Nursing Assistant Program, the Quality and Safety Committee of the Board of Christiana Care Health System, and the Board of Directors for Christiana Care, Union Hospital of Cecil County. Dr. Dryer also chairs the Board Quality Improvement Committee for Christiana Care, Union Hospital of Cecil County. She has presented regionally on nursing and nursing education topics. Dr. Dryer completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; her Master’s degree at University of Delaware; and her Doctor of Nursing Practice at University of Maryland.
