Data & Research in Associate Degree Nursing Education

Our research efforts are managed by the new OADN Research Committee. As part of strategy and planning sessions in 2024, the Committee identified three priority research areas:

  • Student Applications, Enrollment & Graduation
  • Faculty Recruitment & Retention
  • Nursing Program Administration

Background

The OADN Research Committee was established to identify and support academic proposals aiming to collect, analyze and report on data critical to Associate Degree Nursing research. It carries out this mission as follows:

  • Identifying and reviewing current research being conducted to demonstrate the value of associate degree nursing, as well as what new research should be considered. The Committee will regularly assess the effectiveness of the OADN research strategy and make recommendations for continuous improvement that align with the organization’s vision and long-term goals.
  • Prioritizing essential data points to be collected to support ADN education, which may include conducting an environmental scan of research that supports and informs associate degree nursing education.
  • The Committee thoroughly reviews survey request proposals submitted by OADN members conducting research to ensure alignment with the organization’s research priorities and ethical standards. They will also evaluate the scientific merit, originality, and potential impact of the proposed survey research projects.

OADN: Supporting Research and Our Members

OADN is committed to the advancement of research as part of it’s mission to support associate degree nursing education, the careers of our members and nursing in general. This commitment to research aligns with our expanding organizational strategy to increase recognition of ADN education as an essential pillar of nursing specifically and the healthcare system in general.

This commitment is also practical and deeply rooted in OADN’s support of our members professional and personal growth. The Committee will help identify and support opportunities for research training, webinars, workshops, and skill development programs to enhance the research capabilities of OADN members as faculty, researchers, and students.

How OADN Members Can Benefit & Contribute

We encourage members to join in this expanded research program by:

  • Participating in surveys distributed through OADN
  • Using the data and analysis from these efforts towards your own original research
  • Attending forthcoming webinars, conversations and additional online community events we’ll be hosting in 2025.
  • Volunteering with the research committee! Get in touch if you’d like to help.

Research Highlights

Fast Facts

The Committee has developed an initial set of “Fast Facts” (see below) from each of the priority topic areas. OADN members are encouraged to reuse this data to inform their own original research.

In addition to “Fast Facts”, we’re also providing a few longer form examples of key journal articles and presentations that draw from a variety of OADN-supported research and analysis.
