Dr. Lisa Hawthorne is the Director of Nursing / Chief Nursing Administrator for the Associate Degree Nursing program at Louisiana State University (LSU) at Eunice, Louisiana. She began her career as an associate degree nursing graduate of Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ and began her nursing practice in orthopedics in San Diego, CA. She found her passion in nursing working in community health, and eventually in faculty / leadership roles in nursing academia. She holds certification as a Certified Nurse Educator and Public Health Nurse. Dr. Hawthorne earned her PhD in Nursing through the Hahn School of Nursing at the University of San Diego, where her dissertation research was based on the success of licensed practical/vocational nurses in pursuit of earning an associate degree in nursing.

In addition to Dr. Hawthorne’s role at LSU, she is an advocate for online learning to advance the opportunity for educational pursuits regardless of where nurses live. She currently serves as core faculty with American College of Education for the EdD and EdS programs, with an emphasis in nursing. She serves as a director for the Louisiana League for Nursing, and state Co-Lead for Louisiana Action Coalition to advance the Future of Nursing 2020-2030 recommendations. Dr. Hawthorne is a member of the Texas League for Nursing, Louisiana Nurses Association, Sigma, National League for Nursing, and Organization for Associate Degree Nursing.
