Lynette V. Apen is the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health at Evergreen Valley College (EVC), where she leads the Associate Degree RN program, degrees in nutrition and child development and course offerings for Certified Nursing Assistant, and Health education. Dr. Apen began her nursing career as a pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT nurse, and then transitioned to working in adult oncology. After completing graduate school at University of California San Francisco (UCSF), Dr. Apen joined the nursing faculty at EVC and became a tenured faculty teaching Medical-Surgical nursing, Mental Health nursing, Pharmacology and Leadership Management. Dr. Apen transitioned from a tenured faculty into the Dean of Nursing role and has been at EVC for over 19 years. In May 2021, Dr. Apen completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from San Jose State University. Her doctoral project included a descriptive study outlining the workforce shortage of nursing academic leaders in California.
In addition to the role at EVC, Dr. Apen serves as the President for the northern region of the California Organization of Associate Degree Nursing (COADN), and serves on the OADN COVID taskforce. Dr. Apen has presented at state and national conferences on ADN to BSN pathways, leadership succession planning, and advocacy.
