Candidate for OADN Nominating Committee

Lisa Hawthorne

I am seeking to be elected to the Nominating Committee to continue my service to the mission of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN). In the past, I have served as an elected OADN secretary and currently serve as the appointed OADN secretary (first term). As a military spouse, I started my career as an associate degree nurse. Due to frequent military relocations, I would not have been able to pursue my passion for nursing without ADN education. I currently work with ADN students concurrently enrolled in BSN programs at American College of Education. I continue to serve in multiple capacities to advance nursing education and practice. I serve as state co-lead with the Louisiana Action Coalition and board member with the Indiana Center for Nursing. In the past, I have collaborated with the Texas Board of Nursing and U. S. Department of Education to help displaced nursing students finish their degree when their college closed overnight. I have had experience with my local district, the Texas Nurses Association, as an elected nomination committee chair and then treasurer. I have served as a panelist to present the benefits of ADN education to address social determinants of health. Annually, I serve as co-moderator for the virtual Louisiana Culture of Health Summit. In 2024, I was selected as an Academy of Associate Degree Fellow based on my experiences of developing an ADN evening-weekend option at a public university to expand access. I appreciate being considered for a second appointed-secretary term.
