College of Coastal Georgia: Zeta Gamma Chapter 2026 Update

July 15, 2026

Chapter: Zeta Gamma

Faculty Advisor: Alison Lawson

This year’s group of students were in the hospital during the Flu A outbreak our area had in the fall and saw many patients hospitalized with Flu A in the Spring during their clinical rotations. They identified many flu-positive patients as being young adults or middle adults.

Through research, they found out that students in other academic programs at our college are not required to have a flu shot and do not get the flu shot as part of their primary health prevention practices. They spoke to the Office of Wellbeing and Support at the college and partnered with them to bring awareness to the need for flu vaccination/flu and to promote our campus offering free flu shots in the fall for full time students. They also taught students how to prevent the spread of infection and pulmonary hygiene. They assembled pulmonary hygiene kits that included tissues and hand sanitizer to share with the students they taught. They have created a QR code to track the number of students who participated in the education campaign and received flu shots in the fall with the Office of Wellbeing and Support.
