Melissa L. Mastorovich, DNP, RN, PMH-BC, FAADN Announced as Editor-in-Chief of Teaching and Learning in Nursing
Washington, DC — The Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) is pleased to announce the selection and appointment of Melissa L. Mastorovich, DNP, RN, PMH-BC, FAADN, as Editor-in-Chief of Teaching and Learning in Nursing (TELN), the official peer-reviewed journal of OADN.
Following a national search, Dr. Mastorovich was selected to lead the journal based on her extensive editorial experience, scholarly contributions to nursing education, and long-standing commitment to the associate degree nursing community. She has served TELN in several roles, including reviewer, Editorial Board member, Associate Editor, and, most recently, Interim Editor-in-Chief beginning in January 2026.
“I am thrilled to accept the position of Editor-in-Chief of Teaching and Learning in Nursing,” said Dr. Mastorovich. “It will be my goal to ensure that the journal balances scholarly quality with real-world relevance. Our readers are busy educators looking for ideas, evidence, and approaches they can use in their classrooms and clinical settings. A journal’s success should be measured not only by external indicators, but also by whether its content is read, used, and shared by educators, and whether it influences teaching practice and curriculum design. As Editor-in-Chief, I will work to ensure that our editorial decisions consistently reflect this balance, keeping the journal firmly anchored in its educational mission.”
Dr. Mastorovich began her teaching career in 1989 and spent many years educating pre-licensure nursing students in community college and diploma programs. She currently serves as Senior Clinician and Educator at STAT Nursing Consultants, Inc., where she works with nursing faculty and students across the country to strengthen academic performance and support NCLEX preparation. She also maintains clinical practice as a Senior Professional Nurse on the solid organ transplant unit at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, which informs her perspective on nursing education and practice.
During her tenure as Associate Editor, Dr. Mastorovich managed more than 400 manuscript submissions, authored editorials, and served as guest editor for a special issue focused on evaluation in nursing education. She also introduced the “Tips for the Trade for ADN Educators” article series to encourage new authors and provide practical strategies educators can use in classroom and clinical settings.
“Dr. Mastorovich brings exceptional editorial expertise and a deep understanding of the needs of nurse educators,” said Rick García, PhD, RN, CCM, FAAOHN, FAADN, FAAN, Chief Executive Officer of OADN and the OADN Foundation. “Her experience with TELN and her commitment to strengthening scholarship in associate degree nursing make her uniquely qualified to guide the journal’s continued growth and impact.”
OADN President Lynette Apen, DNP, CNS, RN, CNE, added, “Teaching and Learning in Nursing plays an essential role in advancing innovative teaching practices and supporting faculty who educate a significant portion of the nation’s nursing workforce. Dr. Mastorovich’s leadership and dedication to nursing education will ensure the journal continues to serve as a vital resource for ADN educators.”
