Director, Southwest RegionAssociate Professor, San Antonio College – San Antonio, Texas
Dr. Daniel B. Flores Jr. is a nursing educator and academic leader at San Antonio College (SAC) in San Antonio, Texas. With a Doctor of Nursing Practice and a deep commitment to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals, he serves as Associate Professor of Nursing Education and Level IV Coordinator, where he mentors faculty and supports fourth-semester nursing students as they transition into clinical practice.
As faculty advisor for the San Antonio College Texas Student Nurses Association (SAC-TNSA) and co-advisor of the Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society (Iota Mu Chapter), Dr. Flores champions student leadership, scholarship, and professional identity formation. He is also the Southwest Regional Director for the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN), where he advocates nationally for ADN-prepared nurses and supports innovative pathways to BSN advancement, including Texas Senate Bill 2118, which expanded RN-to-BSN programs at community colleges.
Widely recognized for his creative, student-centered approach, Dr. Flores has led multiple retention and success initiatives, including the Semester One Family Open House, “Nursing School: It’s a Family Affair.” This event invites families of incoming nursing students into SAC’s simulation labs and classrooms, helping them understand and support the rigorous journey ahead. The Open House also aligns with SAC’s Caring Campus Initiative, developed by the Institute for Evidence-Based Change (IEBC), which emphasizes fostering a sense of belonging as a key driver of student success and persistence.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Flores extends his focus on compassionate leadership through collaborative community projects, including student-led blood drives and health promotion events. As a scholar and national presenter, he has delivered research-based presentations and posters on topics such as post-COVID nursing assessment (“The New Norm?”), generational diversity in nursing education, therapeutic touch, and humanistic care.
A passionate advocate for the human connection at the heart of nursing, Dr. Flores aligns his philosophy with Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, which views caring as the moral, ethical, and philosophical foundation of practice. Whether in the classroom, clinical setting, boardroom, or scholarship, he continues to lead with purpose, emphasizing that nursing is both an art and a science—grounded in authenticity, compassion, and community.
