Candidate Statement
It is with a profound sense of purpose that I submit my candidacy for service on the Board of the Organization of Associate Degree Nursing (OADN). I currently serve as an Associate Professor at Bronx Community College of the City University of New York.
I have worked for more than two decades as a nurse, educator, and administrator in both the United States and the Philippines. My work has received considerable recognition, but the honor closest to my heart is OADN’s Elsevier Educator of the Year Award, which I received in 2023.
Such a privilege carries with it an enduring responsibility to give back. Service on the OADN Board represents an opportunity to meaningfully contribute to an organization whose mission and vision align closely with my own life’s work: uplifting nurses and nursing students and strengthening the future of the profession through education, mentorship, advocacy, and leadership. If elected to the OADN Board, I offer my years of experience as an educator, scientist, administrator, and board member in other 501(c)(3) organizations.
Having spent most of my career teaching in associate degree nursing (ADN) programs, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that support and mentorship can have on students and early-career nurses. I believe ADN students often face a steeper learning curve than traditional students. For this reason, ADN faculty must have a robust and versatile teaching toolkit that meets the needs of learners with diverse capacities and learning styles. It is my hope that my service on the OADN Board will help the organization continue fulfilling its mission as the national voice and pivotal resource for ADN faculty.
