OADN: Supporting Research and Our Members

Data and research are essential to demonstrating the value of associate degree nursing programs and the faculty who sustain them. OADN advances this work by providing members with actionable, data-driven insights that:

  • Use national data to strengthen your advocacy at the institutional, state, and federal levels

  • Apply national trends to inform your research and guide program strategy

  • Contribute your work and data to build the evidence base that elevates ADN education and informs policy

How You Can Contribute

  • Participate in the OADN Annual Survey distributed to ADN nursing program administrators each spring. If you do not receive the survey, please contact nationalsurvey@oadn.org. Only one survey response per program is requested. Your participation ensures that ADN programs are accurately represented in national data.
  • Participate in independent research studies that expand the evidence base around ADN education, student outcomes, and program effectiveness. Visit the Research Support page to identify studies where your participation can contribute to advancing the field.
  • If selected, contribute to national studies and sample surveys such as the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses conducted by HRSA and NCSBN’s National Nursing Workforce Survey. Participation ensures the ADN perspective is reflected in influential, policy-shaping datasets.

Your Participation Makes an Impact

OADN Annual Survey data have been cited in the following NCSBN Environmental Scans from 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. These national reports inform workforce strategy and policy decisions. This level of influence is only possible because of the strong participation of ADN programs in OADN research efforts. When you participate, you ensure that ADN education is visible, represented, and influential in shaping the future of nursing.

Recruit Participants for Your Own Research

OADN provides a members-only opportunity to promote your IRB-approved research to a national audience of nurse educators and leaders. This visibility helps strengthen participation rates, expand reach, and increase the impact of your work. OADN supports these efforts by:

    • Sending targeted calls to action to members to encourage participation in active, approved surveys.
    • Recruiting both member and nonmember nurse educators to participate.

To learn more about requirements and how to submit your research study application to the OADN community, please visit the Research Support page.

Data & Research Resources

Fast Facts

The OADN Research Committee has developed an initial set of “Fast Facts” (see below) from each of the priority topic areas. OADN members are encouraged to reuse this data to inform their own original research. Each visualization is interactive and available for download directly under the graphic.

Members-Only Resources

Members-only resources provide exclusive access to timely, credible, and practical tools that support advocacy, scholarship, and program leadership. The following resources are available in the
Member Resource Library:

  • Fast Facts: 2025 National Snapshot
  • Fast Facts: 2025 Program Administrators
  • Fast Facts: 2024 Admission Trends
  • Fast Facts: 2024 Enrollment Trends
  • Coming Soon: Fast Facts: 2025 Faculty Recruitment, Retention & Compensation
    • The nursing shortage is exacerbated by challenges in nursing education programs, notably a lack of faculty. Associate degree programs are critical to addressing this shortage, yet faculty workforce data remain limited. OADN is working to close this gap. Check back soon for more updates.

  • Nursing Program Administration
  • Student Applications & Enrollment
  • Student Graduation & Pass Rates
  • Faculty Recruitment, Retention & Compensation

The Committee was established to identify, support, and conduct academic research proposals critical to associate degree nursing research.
